Overview of Deformed Grout Bar Bolts and Studs

Deformed grout bar bolts or studs, in conjunction with either cement or polyester resin, are extensively used in the support of underground excavations. This type of support is recommended where: -

  • Ground conditions do not permit the use of end anchored (mechanical) bolts or studs.
  • Shear movement in laminated strata needs to be controlled.
  • Support tendons need to be protected from a corrosive environment.

Deformed grout bar is used with various accessories (depending on the application and geological conditions). In order to select the correct accessories for your particular application and conditions, please refer to the Rock Bolt Accessories - Bearing Plates, Nuts and Spherical Seats section.

In order to ensure that you receive the maximum benefit in terms of performance and safety from our products, please refer to our detailed Installation Methods and Procedures section.

Applications

Threaded Deformed Grout Bar Studs:

  • Where additional thread may be required to take up any play between the bearing plate and the rock surface (e.g. pulling wire mesh into depressions in the rock surface).
  • Where it may be difficult to impart thrust loading to the bolt during pre-loading.

Headed Deformed Grout Bar Bolts:

  • Where the minimum amount of bolt protrusion from the hole is required (e.g. low roof).
  • Where thrust pre-loading is preferred to torque pre-loading.
  • Where no protruding thread is required for the suspension of eye-nuts etc.
SPECIFICATIONS
Lengths Studs and bolts are available in standard lengths from 0.6 m to 3.0 m in increments of 0.3 m. The length of studs is measured overall and bolts from the threaded end to under the forged head. Non standard lengths are available on request.
Available Thread Types and Sizes (LH and RH Available) All threads are formed by a cold rolling process and are available in either left or right handed threads.
