ROTARY AUGER DRILL STEELS

(Click picture for larger view)

Overview Of Rotary Auger Drill Steels

Rotary auger type drill steels are used to drill shot holes and rock bolt holes in the softer measures typically found on coal mines. They are used in conjunction with hand held electric drilling machines. Removal of the drill chips is effected by the auger action of the drill steel and no water is used to flush the drill hole.

Lengths

Drill steels are available in standard lengths from 0.6 m to 3.6 m in increments of 0.3m. Non standard lengths are available on application.

Safety precaution! Do not drill holes longer than 1.5 m in one pass. Always use a 'starter' steel of not more than 50% of the required ultimate hole length to start the hole. Failure to observe this precaution, will lead to bending of the drill steel during drilling which causes metal fatigue and eventual failure.

Diameters

The following diameters are available: -

Nominal Diameter Bit End Drill End
22 mm Threaded M12 Plain *
25 mm 'P' Shank Plain *
32 mm 'P' Shank Standard shank to suit drill
35 mm 'P' Shank Standard shank to suit drill

* Both 22 mm and 25 mm auger steels require the use of an Auger Adaptor with rotary hand held drilling machines (see under adaptors).

Adaptors

Adaptors are available to adapt both the 22 mm and the 25 mm auger steels to the rotary hand held drilling machine.
